For Christmas...

The bad thing about having a birthday and Christmas close together is that I have to come up with gift ideas for both occasions. I ordered some boots for my birthday online a few months ago and they are sitting underneath my bed anxiously awaiting December 9th when I can finally pull them out to wear. Now, all I have to do is think of what to ask for from C for Christmas. So... I am asking you for ideas. I don't need clothes, perfume, jewelry, a handbag or any of the other more generic gifts. I don't want a vacuum or kitchen stuff. So - what should I ask for?

Also, as many of you know, our little Sara is going to be 2 months old on Christmas Eve. Another small, yet equally important dilemma, what do you buy a 2 month old for Christmas? She doesn't need clothes or toys. I guess we could always buy her nothing since she won't know the difference, but that's no fun. Any ideas on what to get Sara for Christmas?

Maybe you should ask C for a nice piece of photo software. You'll be taking more pictures now that you have Penny around.

And for Penny, I discovered a new toy company that I really think makes awesome stuff. They are called Haba. Check them out on Amazon. Their stuff is a little pricey, but looks like the way toys should be made. I personally think the Moby clutch toy is really cool-looking.

By the way, I swear I am still a dude. I also just happen to be a dad.

We had the same issues with our son who is 13 now and a Dec. 8th birthday. We went with favorite childhood books and a savings account. My mom also bought a wet-wipe warmer son his little bum would not get cold.

Maybe you should ask for some books or you love gift cards.. and for S I would buy her a customized book. There are website where you can put her name in them and it's fun I got it for Colter last year and now I read it to him and I think he enjoys hearing his name being said.. I got him the Christmas one so it's fun.. Just a thought :) The website I got Colter's book is identitydirect.com good luck!

Nathan was one month old for his first Christmas and we opened a college savings account for him. Other people got him so many gifts, it would have been a waste for us to get him anything else.

As for your gift. You should treat yourself to some family photos.

Books. There are so many great infant books out there that she will love looking at now and in the next few months, and that she can chew to pieces without destroying them.

What about those Willow Tree figurine things? The one of a mommy holding her little baby. I got one after i had my first and i cherish it.
You could get books for your little girl. I think everyone has suggested that already. :)

If you can't think of something else, you could do a microloan in her name like at kiva.org. Then when she's older you could tell her about it. For you I agree-family or baby pictures.

how about a beautiful little ornament for sara? I try to buy one for my girls every year. I can't believe that you don't want a single piece of new clothing. :)

You could always ask for what Brian asked me to get him for his Christmas gift... A Honey-Baked Ham (and no, I'm not even joking!!!) ;)

Sara will probably just want to look at the shiny wrapping paper for Christmas.

I have the same problem. My birthday is today and I have just come to accept that a birthday in December is not fun. Your little one is so cute! We just found out we are having a boy.

How do you like being a mom? How is C at being "Dad?" I turned 30 this year, and I feel younger than I ever have. But wow, Darin - 25! I remember when your mom was pregnant with Darin. I know this was already mentioned, but we did the college savings plan for each child's first Christmas. And, for something more personal, I make an applique quilt, with the picture being inspired by the few months that I have gotten to know the little one. Brendan's was a frog with dragonflies, Jillian's was a princess with curly brown hair, and Karigan's was an angel. I love doing this so much, I now make our nieces and nephews quilts for their first Christmas.
